Change the app alert to something different
Ring Video Doorbells don’t just tell you when your latest Amazon delivery is on your doorstep, or your neighbor has been over to drop you off a delicious cake (wishful thinking, we know), they have some other pretty handy features wrapped up in their settings too.
From adjusting motion settings to make sure you’re only getting alerts about the stuff you actually want to know about, to changing your Ring Video Doorbell‘s ringtone so you can set a sound that’s more personal to you. It’s the latter feature we’re talking about here, so if you want to know how to change your Ring Video Doorbell‘s sound, keep reading and we will take you through it step-by-step.

How to change the Ring Video Doorbell ringtone
Now, there’s something you need to know before we carry on, if you came here hoping to learn how to change the outside tone of your Ring Video Doorbell, I am afraid you are out of luck. Not because we don’t want to give you the answer, but because it’s not possible.
You can change the inside tone of your Ring Video Doorbell through a connected chime, and you can change the alert tone the app offers when your video doorbell is pushed, but you can’t change the outside tone. It’s a shame really, as you can change the ringtone if you have the Google Nest Doorbell for example, but it is what it is.
If you’re not entirely put off by that information and you want to shake things up when it comes to the app tone you will hear when your Ring Video Doorbell is pushed, then keep reading and we will take you through the steps. Don’t worry, it’s fairly straightforward and there are A LOT of different options.

- Open the Ring app and head to your Video Doorbell’s settings
First up, open the Ring app and tap on your Video Doorbell in the Dashboard. If you aren’t sure where the Dashboard is, tao on the three lines int he top left corner and tap Dashboard. You will then want to tao on the settings cog in the top right corner when you have tapped on your Ring Video Doorbell.
- Find your way to Notification Settings
Once you have got yourself into the settings of your Ring Video Doorbell, you’ll need to tsp on the Device Settings tile, followed by Notification Settings. This will offer up another range of options, but it’s here you will find App Alert Tones.
- Choose your new ringtone
Within App Alert Tones, you will find a he list of alert tones that the app plays for your Ring Video Doorbell. You can switch between ‘Rings’ and ‘Motion’ and select different tones for each and there are over 50 options with everything from ‘Thursday Night Football’ to Cowbell. Select the ringtone you want the app to make and press the back arrow in the top left when you have picked. If you have a Chime connected, and you want to change the tone of that, tao on Linked Chimes and select your tone rather than tapping on App Alert Tones.
That’s it! The Ring app will make the noise of the tone you have selected when someone rings your Ring doorbell.
