You might not be able to change the ringtone of your Ring doorbell outside (this is still a sore point for us), but the company makes up for that in other ways, like its Quick Replies feature. Ring teamed up with M&Ms not that long ago so you could choose M&M’s Red to reply to visitors during Halloween and now there’s the option to pick TV presenters Ant and Dec.

The Quick Replies feature allows you to select your preferred message if you aren’t able to get to your door when someone rings the doorbell and the Ant and Dec options add a touch of cheek to the responses. Here’s how to set up Quick Replies and pick Ant and Dec as an option when the postman, delivery driver or any other visitor rings your doorbell.

What you’ll need

A Ring Video Doorbell
The Ring app
Your smartphone or tablet

The short version

Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu button (three lines) in the top left of the Dashboard.
Tap Devices.
Select the doorbell you want to set up Ant and Dec Quick Replies with.
Tap the Smart Responses tile below the doorbell image.
Toggle on the Quick Replies switch to blue.
Set Response Time for right away or between 2-20 seconds.
Tap on Quick Reply Message.
Scroll down the list and select one of the Ant and Dec greetings.
Tap ‘Save‘ in the top right corner.

Ant and Dec are no strangers to Ring (no pun intended), with the pair delivering a ‘Ring my Bell’ segment on their Saturday Night Takeaway show, but Quick Replies takes them from your screen and onto your doorbell. There are a number of Ant and Dec Quick Reply options, with all offering either a little bit of cheek, or some of the pair’s iconic taglines to charm visitors.

When you have activated the Quick Reply feature in the Ring app, if a visitor then presses your doorbell, they will hear the Ant and Dec message you have picked and they can then leave you a reply. It’s a bit like voicemail but for your doorbell.

Should you want to have a real-time conversation with whoever is at your door, that’s when you’ll need to use the Two-Way Talk feature but otherwise, Ant and Dec will do the answering and you can get on with doing whatever you’re doing, whether that’s peeling potatoes or just catching up on I’m a Celeb and watching Ant and Dec on your big screen instead.

The Ant and Dec Quick Replies include the following:

Ant: Hi, we’re your hosts Ant and Dec – and you’ve just won tonight’s star prize!
Dec: It’s the chance to meet the person who is about to answer this door!
Ant: Congratulations! Stay right where you are
Select: You’ve won the star prize.

Dec: Ant and Dec here! And the door is nooooooooow open!
Ant: No, not yet Dec! The people inside are too busy watching telly to come to the door…
Dec: Oh right, well pleeeeeeeease leave a message!
Ant: You can’t help yourself, can you?
Select: Too busy watching telly.
Ant: Hi, Ant and Dec here – fortunately, Dec’s so small he can fit inside the doorbell.
Dec: Yes, I’m here! Thanks for stopping by! Someone will be right out.
Select: Inside the doorbell.
Ant: Hi! We’re your hosts Ant and Dec, and joining us today is our brand new contestant – YOU!
Dec: To win the star prize of someone answering this door, all you need to do is shout “I’VE GOT A VERY LARGE PACKAGE!” in 3,2,1, go!
Select: A very large package.
Ant: Surprise! Ant and Dec here, and you’re LIVE ON THE TELLY! Give us a wave!
Dec: We’re only joking! But you ARE live on this doorbell, so please leave a message!
Select: Surprise.
Ant: Hello! Ant and Dec here!
Dec: Coming up, someone WILL answer this door. The question is, who’s it gonna be?!
Ant: Ooh, stay right where you are to find out!
Select: Who’s it gonna be?

Time needed: 5 minutes

Open the Ring app and head to Devices

First up, you’ll need to open the Ring app, tap on the Menu icon in the top left corner – the three lines, and select Devices from the options.
Find Smart Responses

From the Devices menu, tap on the Video Doorbell you want to set up the Ant and Dec Quick Replies for. There are a number of tiles below the image of your doorbell, scroll down to find Smart Responses.
Toggle on Quick Replies and select your response time

You’ll see the Quick Replies options within the Smart Responses section. Toggle the switch next to Quick Replies to turn it blue to turn Quick Replies on. You should then select a Response Time by tapping on that option. You can pick anything between 2 seconds and 20 seconds.
Choose your Quick Reply Message

Last thing to do is to select your Quick Reply Message and this is where you’ll find the Ant and Dec options. Tap on the Quick Reply Message and then tap on the Ant and Dec drop down. From here, you can select any of the messages we listed above. We have put in bold what the drop down option is for each.
