The Amazon Echo Spot is a superb smart speaker, and while it’s versatile enough to be used anywhere, many people ask us how to turn off the camera.

Alexa is perfect for working as a bedside clock, radio alarm, way of starting your morning routine, and all the other Alexa smart home control you might need, and as such, the Echo Spot is a perfect bedside companion. But it’s not unreasonable to find that camera a little creepy.

Fortunately, it’s easy to turn off the camera on Alexa’s smart speakers with screens – and there’s a number of ways to do it.

Firstly, if you want a private moment you can use the mute button (shown below) on the top of your Echo Spot, however, this will mute the mic as well, so that’s not a long-term peace of mind option. If you really want it off, follow the steps below.

How to turn off your Echo Spot camera

1. Use your voice

Just say Alexa, turn the camera off and Amazon’s voice assistant will gladly oblige.

2. Toggle off with the screen

If you’d like to physically toggle this off, and not take Alexa’s word for it, you can do it via the Echo Spot’s touchscreen display.

Swipe down from the top and tap on the Settings menu – unoriginally, it’s a cog. Scroll down to Device Options and toggle camera off. You’ll need to accept that it will affect some features – namely video calling.

Again, the process here kind of works the same on the Echo Show as the Echo Spot. However, with the Echo Show more geared towards video calling, remember that you’ll lose access to this feature if you disable the camera (duh).

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen

2. Choose Settings

3. Choose Device Options

4. Toggle off Enable Camera
