A step-by-step on linking and controlling a Dyson fan with your voice through Alexa
Alexa is compatible with so many smart home devices these days that you really can just sit back on your couch and bark commands at your Echo speaker or display to have multiple things happen around you. And that’s all without you really needing to lift a finger, literally.

Those supported smart home devices don’t just include your typical options like Philips Hue and iRobot however, Alexa also works with devices like Dyson fans. Yes, you can use Alexa to turn your Dyson fan on or off, as well as adjust the flow of air to keep you cool during the summer months, or toasty during winter (if you have the right model).
Below, we will explain the short version of setting up your Dyson fan with Alexa and how to control it, as well as a slightly lengthier one with a bit more detail. So sit back, relax and let Alexa make that fan blow.
What you’ll need
- A compatible Dyson fan
- The MyDyson app with your fan set up
- Your smartphone or tablet
- An Alexa device
- The Alexa app
The short version
- Open the MyDyson app.
- Select your fan from the burger menu on the left.
- Tap the settings cog in the top right corner.
- Select Voice Control.
- Choose Amazon Alexa.
- Select ‘Link with Alexa‘.
- Tap on ‘Link‘ to link your Dyson and Alexa accounts.
- Tap on ‘OK, got it‘ to finish.
How to link and control your Dyson fan with Alexa
Once you’ve linked up your Dyson fan with Alexa, there are a range of commands you can ask your Echo device – or third party Alexa device (like a Sonos speaker) – for with just your voice. These include turning on and off your Dyson fan, along with a few more detailed requests.
These are some examples of the requests you can ask Alexa for when it comes to your Dyson fan:
- “Alexa, turn on my purifier.”
- “Alexa, set the fan speed to five.”
- “Alexa, increase fan speed on purifier.”
- “Alexa, increase the temperature.”
- “Alexa, turn on Night mode.”
- “Alexa, set Oscillation to Narrow on purifier.”

Along with specific requests, you can also incorporate your Dyson fan into Alexa Routines and Groups. That means you could get your Dyson fan in your bedroom to turn on when you say “bedtime” for example, or you could make it work alongside living room lights when you turn everything on at once. You can read more about Alexa Routines and Groups and how to set them up in our separate feature.
Time needed: 5 minutes
- Open the MyDyson app and select your fan
The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure you have downloaded both the MyDyson app and the Alexa app and added your Dyson fan to the MyDyson app, and your Echo device to the Alexa app. Next, you’ll want to open up the MyDyson app and select your fan from the burger menu in the top left corner.
- Head to Voice Control in the Settings
There is a settings cog in the top right corner of your fan’s main home screen in the MyDyson app. Tap on that symbol to pull up settings, where a range of options will appear. Select Voice Control from the list. You will then need to pick Amazon Alexa from the next screen.
- Link your Dyson and Alexa accounts
Next up, you will need to follow the on-screen instructions to link your Dyson and Alexa accounts together. Once you have chosen Amazon Alexa, a “Link with Alexa” button will appear at the bottom of your screen. Tap on that and then tap on “Link”. The two accounts should automatically link together after a few seconds, after which you can tap “Ok, got it” to finish.
That’s it, you should be all set up. Try saying “Alexa, set the fan speed to five” to get your Dyson fan blowing.
