It wasn't just hardware announced at Amazon's big September 2020 launch event, the tech giant also took the covers off of a number of great new Alexa features that were heading our way in following weeks and months.

One of those, Alexa Guard Plus, is now available... in the US, at least.

Costing $4.99 monthly, or $49 for a year up front - after a free 30 day trial - Alexa Guard Plus adds a few extra layers to the standard Alexa Guard platform, such as letting users to ask their digital assistant to connect them directly to security agents by saying, “Alexa, call for help”.

Guide: What is Alexa Guard exactly?

Trained professionals from security specialists can then request and dispatch medical, fire, or police assistance on users' behalf.

Guard Plus works with smart security brands like Abode, Scout Alarm, Resideo, A3 Smart Home, and Wyze.

Alexa Guard Plus adds monitoring for footsteps, doors closing, or glass breaking and, when an Alexa Guard Plus system is set to away, a siren can be triggered on Echo smart speakers.

It can work with just the microphones on your Echo speakers but works best if you have Alexa-compatible security cameras and some smart lights.

Alexa Guard Plus can also help to deter potential intruders by playing the sounds of dogs barking from Echo devices.
