Back in January, smart heating specialist Ecobee took the covers off of its latest device: the Smart Thermostat Essential.
The new smart home temperature controller now available now, priced at $129.99, which is a significantly lower price point than the Canadian brand’s flagship smart thermostat, the Smart Thermostat Premium, which costs $249.99.
Despite that lower price-tag, the Smart Thermostat Essential still boasts a full-colour touchscreen and works with the big smart home platforms from Apple, Amazon, Google and Samsung, although you don’t get built-in voice assistants, as you do with the flagship.
You also don’t get to to view live footage when the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera‘s button is pressed, which is a pretty unique feature on the Premium.
However, you do get a device that’s designed to make temperature control easy and efficient.
The Essential’s features include scheduling and settings that adapt to household routines, optimising energy use when you’re away and ensuring comfort when you’re home.
It offers precision temperature control by learning how long it takes to heat or cool your home, ensuring you get the temperature you want at the right time.
It’s also compatible with the optional Ecobee SmartSensors, allowing you to focus on the rooms you use most.
The Essential also provides automatic alerts for potential issues and offers home energy reports to help you understand your energy use and find ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
It’s part of Ecobee’s Energy Star certified range, and we’re told it could help you save up to 23% annually on heating and cooling costs.
