Eve Systems, which for years was a HomeKit-only affair, has announced that the Eve Energy smart plug now supports Matter’s new energy reporting features.
What’s more, the German brand is updating its Android app, which launched at the end of last year, with full energy monitoring.
And, because good things come in threes, there’s also the news that the Energy smart plug is now officially ‘Works With Home Assistant’ certified.
That’s a big trio of updates for anyone looking to better track (and maybe curb) their home’s energy use, no matter which platform they’re using.
If you’ve been in the Apple Home ecosystem, you’re probably already familiar with Eve Energy’s detailed power graphs and consumption stats.
But until now, all of that goodness was locked behind proprietary APIs and iOS.
That changes with a new firmware update that brings Matter-based energy reporting to the plug, meaning it can now share real-time power, voltage, and cumulative consumption data with any Matter smart home system that supports it.
Home Assistant is first out of the gate here, but others should, catch up soon… we hope.
Eve Energy connects to Home Assistant locally over Thread, there’s no need for those pesky clouds to get involved.
The Munich-based brand tells us that more of its products, including sensors, lighting, and climate controls, will follow soon with the same certification.
Onto the updates for Google Home users and Version 1.3 of the Eve app for Android brings full support for Eve Energy, including schedules, usage tracking, and even projected cost estimates based on your usage.
It’s all tied into Google’s Home APIs, which were launched last year at the 2024 Google I/O developer conference.
The Google Home APIs grant access to over 600 million connected devices within Google Home and the Matter infrastructure, along with the Google Home automation engine, and is available on both Android and iOS.
Firmware updates are rolling out now for all recent Eve Energy models, including those in the US, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, and Switzerland.
For Home Assistant users, you’ll need a Home Assistant Green (or similar setup) and a compatible Thread border router to get up and running.
