Eve has been a big player in the Matter smart home initiative right from the start and that commitment continues with the launch of a new Matter version of the Eve Weather.
Eve Weather is an E-ink smart weather station that shows outdoor temperature, humidity and the local 12-hour weather trend.
When synced up with a smart home ecosystem – previously HomeKit only but now platform agnostic thanks to the Matter compatibility – you can then use those sensor measurements to kick start automations; think having smart blinds close if the temperature gets too high, or having the AC kick in when the humidity is above a certain threshold.
The good news is that, because it’s a Matter over Thread device, that existing Weather owners will also be able to upgrade their Weather devices via an OTA firmware update to get in on the Matter action.
You’ll need a Thread border router and a Matter controller but the chances are you’ve already got one; the likes of the Apple HomePod Mini, Amazon Echo and SmartThings Hub will all do the job – check out our guide to Matter devices and controllers to find out more.
The new Eve Weather with Matter is available now for $79.95. There is still a HomeKit-only version for people not wanting to take the Matter plunge.
