Fire TV Cube gets Alexa Announcements – and more features are incoming

Use that TV as part of your smart home

Fire TV Cube gets Alexa Announcements

The announcements just won’t stop coming over at Amazon – and ironically two in the last week are around the Alexa Announcements feature.

After adding Drop In and Announcements to the Fire 8 and 10 tablets last week, Fire TV Cube is also getting the feature.

Announcements enable you to speak to your household across all Alexa devices around the home. And while the Fire Cube is technically a TV streamer, it has Alexa built-in. That means you can use it to tell your household dinner is ready – or whatever else you may desire.

But that’s not the end of new features. Another update rolling out later this month will enable smart doorbells to ring your Amazon Fire TV Cube. It will then be able to display a video feed on your TV, if you ask. Likewise, you’ll be able to watch feeds from Alexa compatible smart cameras.

We always saw Amazon’s Fire TV Cube is bridging the gap between a standard Alexa speaker and smart display options, like the Echo Show and Google Assistant Smart Displays. Given the TV is an existing display within your home, it makes sense to utilise it as a smart home device, rather than add more pesky screens around your gaff.
