CES 2025: Shortcut Labs' latest controller unveiled at Las Vegas tech expo
The Flic Duo is the latest smart controller from Shortcut Labs, following on from the huge success of the Flic button range, which is a firm favorite here at The Ambient.
There were actually two generations of Flic buttons before the Flic Twist went live at the end of 2023.
The Flic Duo, which has just had its official unveiling over in Las Vegas at CES 2025, packs – as you may have guessed from the name – a pair of smart buttons in one form factor.
But it isn’t simply a double-up of a regular Flic button. If you detach it from its magnetic mount, you can unlock a whole new world of possibilities.
Swipes, rotations, and other gestures transform it into a full-blown remote control for your smart home.
Lights, music, blinds, whatever your setup, the Duo should have it covered, with up to 30 ‘commands’ allowed.
Much like the Twist, you’ll have to combine gestures and various tap and/or holds of buttons to get to that 30 number though.
But you can keep things simple though; for example you can have it dimming lights when it’s on the wall, but controlling your music when it’s in your hand.
A new addition to the Flic mix is that it can be tracked down if you lose it; the Flic app can make it beep.
The Duo can double as a personal alarm, offering features like fall detection and emergency escalation.
Launching initially for pre-orders on 28 January, the Flic Duo will start shipping in Q2.
