Sonos' Google Assistant integration is delayed until 2019

Your wait is getting a little longer

Google Assistant on Sonos delayed to 2019

Sonos has long said that Google Assistant integration would be coming to its smart speakers by the end of 2018. The year is quickly running out of months though, and there hasn't been a sign of Google Assistant on the horizon.

And Sonos has now made it official: Google Assistant won't be out in time for the end of the year. The company is working on locking down a date at some point of 2019, but it's not clear when in 2019 it could arrive.

Sonos says it and Google need more time "to get the experience right" but that they're making good progress. So hopefully that means early 2019. Sonos certainly knows people are waiting, saying that Google Assistant integration is one of the questions it gets the most from customers and the press.

In the meantime, Sonos is asking people to sign up to be considered for the private beta. It wants participants to commit to listening for at least 14 hours per week, use 10 voice commands daily, and to respond to surveys within 72 hours.

Sonos will process applicants for a couple of weeks. After that, it'll start the beta in a couple hundred homes before ratcheting up to a couple thousand in the coming months. Obviously, Sonos wants real-world feedback before it launches Google Assistant on Sonos.

As for when we can learn more information about Sonos and Google Assistant, the company says we can expect another update in early 2019.
