Home Assistant has now officially received Matter certification, making it 100% officially Matter compatible.
Previously the Home Assistant Matter features were only in beta but the certification, granted by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), makes Home Assistant an official member of the Matter smart home club.
The certification actually comes in two parts: Home Assistant itself is now a certified “User Interface Component,” while the Open Home Foundation Matter Server has been certified as a “Software Component.”
The latter is actually the first open-source project to achieve CSA certification.
For existing Home Assistant users, the certification doesn’t change anything really; Matter support will continue to be updated and refined as new versions roll out.
However, this recognition serves as a trust signal for new users and manufacturers, reinforcing Home Assistant as a reliable platform for Matter devices.
The certification should also mean that more brands get involved in the Works With Home Assistant program, which already includes Matter-enabled products like the Aqara Smart Lock U200.
A free tool, Home Assistant only requires a basic PC like a Raspberry Pi to run. Once installed, you can connect it to hundreds of devices, thanks to its integrations, giving you a single place to control everything in your home.
Plus, it’s HomeKit compatible, so it lets you control devices that aren’t normally supported through the Home app.
