New LG Artcool AI Air has precision sensing for personalized airflow
LG has taken the covers off of the newest member of its Artcool aircon range and, as you’d expect from a tech launch in 2025, there are AI smarts aplenty.
The Korean company’s new Artcool AI Air wants to take smart cooling to the next level with AI-powered climate optimization and enhanced energy efficiency.
What that means, in non press-release fluff language, is that it can automatically adjust its airflow strength and direction based on room layout and where people are positioned.
LG hasn’t detailed exactly what technology it’s using, but if it relies on mmWave radar sensing – like Samsung’s ambient sensing for SmartThings – it could be precise enough to distinguish between an actual person and a plant swaying in the airflow.
The likes of Meross and Aqara already have mmWave sensors on the market, which boast precise presence detection that can not only sense when someone is in a room, but where they are in the room and what they are doing… they can even detect people breathing.
The Artcool AI Air also features a Window Open Detection mode that senses when a window has been left open and automatically switches to energy-saving mode to prevent wasted cooling.
There’s also an AI kW Manager, accessible through the LG ThinQ app, which lets users monitor real-time power consumption and set limits to balance comfort and electricity costs, and a Sleep Timer+ function that can regulate temperature and airflow based on your specific usage patterns, to create the perfect conditions for a top night’s kip.
Unlike previous Artcool models, which focused on blending into home decor with a digital artwork display with a 27-inch display, the new arrival prioritizes intelligence over aesthetics, with a sleek black mirror finish and a multi-line grille structure that helps distribute airflow more evenly for a softer, more comfortable breeze.
LG hasn’t announced pricing or availability yet, but the Artcool AI Air is part of a wider smart home push from the brand.
In the past 12 months we’ve seen LG acquire Athom – the brains behind the excellent Homey smart home system – and the Korean giant has also thrown open the doors to its smart home platform, with the launch of its ThinQ API.
