Forget drilling holes and running wires… smart security specialist Lorex just announced a home security camera that powers up the second you twist it into a regular light socket.
The new Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Lightbulb Camera, which also doubles up as a smart(ish) light too, so you’re not giving up a socket and going dark.
Now available in the US for $69.99 (or $5 more if you want a year of cloud storage), the compact device delivers 2K resolution video, 360° pan and tilt movement, and 400 lumens of LED brightness; all packed into a form factor that looks like a slightly oversized bulb.
It fits any standard E26 or E27 socket (think porch or hallway light), so it’s a rare win for renters or those who want to skip the ladder-and-power-drill routine.
Once installed, the motorized camera can swivel and tilt to give you full coverage of a space, indoors or out, and all the controls live in the Lorex app. That includes live viewing, playback, lighting schedules, and smart alerts.
The built-in 400 lumen LED isn’t going to blind anyone, but it’s plenty to light up a doorway or living room, and it means color night vision for the camera aspect.
The app lets you dim the light or set up automations like motion-activated lighting or vacation mode.
There’s a Privacy Mode that lets you shut things down temporarily, you can just tap a button in the app to physically swivel the camera inward. It will still work as a light in this mode, but the lens is completely covered and recording stops.
The IP65-rated camera is dust-tight and can handle water jets from any direction, so it’s fine for most weather situations. It connects over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
On the smarter side of things, the 2K Lightbulb Camera can differentiate between people and vehicles, and it supports two-way talk through its built-in mic and speaker.
There’s also a small siren if you need to scare someone off.
Footage can be stored locally on a microSD card (up to 256GB, not included), a Lorex Fusion NVR, or in the cloud via a subscription.
It’s available now, direct from Lorex.
