After announcing that it was coming back in January, the Philips Hue Sync TV app is now available for LG Smart TVs.
The app, which allows you to sync your Philips Hue smart lights with the content on your TV screen, is available for LG Smart TVs running webOS 24 or later (for 2024 models onwards).
It’s not free though, it costs $3.99 / £2.69 on a monthly subscription, or you can pay $129.99 / £114.99 to get access to it forever. That’s the same as it costs on Samsung TVs, where it has been available for a couple of years now.
That’s still cheaper than the Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box, which costs $350 / £300 and the app lets your TV’s native apps join the party.
The monthly subscription actually covers three TVs, so might be the best option if you have multiple AV setups.
It works with the likes of Hulu, Disney+ and Netflix, and it also supports multiple image formats including 8K, 4K and HDR 10 and Dolby Vision.
As when using a Philips Hue Sync Box, you will of course need some Hue lights to create the effects.
It works with a range of Hue bulbs – you configure the layout in the Hue app – but the best experience (in my opinion) is when you throw a Hue Gradient Lightstrip into the mix.
Once installed, the app lets you sync your Hue lights with the colors and sounds of your TV screen, creating an immersive experience for movies, shows, and games.
The app also offers customization options, letting you adjust the intensity and speed of the light effects to suit your preferences.
It’s available now, directly on your TV through the LG app store.
