Prompt AI, a San Francisco-based AI research company, has taken the covers off of Seemour; described by its makers as a first-of-its-kind visual intelligence platform, which is designed to work with home security cameras.
Unlike traditional motion alerts, Seemour doesn’t just detect movement, it understands what’s happening, providing clear, contextualized summaries of events in real time.
It’s a similar solution to what we saw Wyze go live with recently, but Seemour plans to work across multiple smart security camera brands.
The Seemour app, which has just gone live for iOS, says that it works with Arlo and Ring cameras and doorbells, and Prompt AI tells us that more devices will be supported in the future.
However, Arlo have been in touch to say Seemour isn’t compatible with its devices.
Seemour’s AI-smarts can recognize familiar faces, identify pets by name, and even differentiate between delivery services like FedEx and Amazon, to give you more accurate descriptions of what is going on in and around your home.
Think notifications like “The kids have arrived home”, “There’s a FedEx package on the porch” and “Tom is in the kitchen with Lucy” and you’re on the right track.
By leveraging large vision-language models and machine learning, Seemour can, according to Prompt AI, reduce unnecessary camera notifications by up to 70%, offering users a more streamlined and insightful view of their home’s activity.
Seemour is also able to summarize multiple camera events into a single, easy-to-read update. Instead of sifting through countless motion notifications, users get a concise breakdown of significant events, whether it’s a family member arriving home, a package delivery, or an unexpected visitor.
For pet owners, Seemour can recognize different pets, so if one dog is behaving while the other is causing mischief, you’ll know exactly who to blame. The system can also detect and alert users about wildlife sightings, making it useful for those in suburban or rural areas.
In an upcoming update, Seemour will introduce a new way to interact with home security footage. Instead of manually scrubbing through hours of recordings, you will be able to ask Seemour direct questions like “When did Michael get home?”, “Where are my keys?” or “Did I leave the backdoor open?” and receive instant, AI-generated responses.
Other planned features include “invisibility” mode, which will allow users to remove specific individuals from stored footage to protect their privacy, as well as custom visual alerts that can detect and notify users about specific actions, such as a pet digging in the yard or a child leaving the house unexpectedly.
Seemour is available for free download on the App Store now. You’ll have to use a Google account or your Apple ID to sign up and then you might hit a waitlist. Prompt AI says that it is “working to scale up our server capacity and will email you as soon as your account is ready.”
