Nine new Z-Wave devices added to the mix
Shelly, a favorite among smart home enthusiasts, is making strides toward mainstream adoption with the announcement of nine new devices from its Z-Wave lineup gaining SmartThings certification.
The new devices added to the SmartThings mix are the Wave 2PM, Wave Pro 2, Wave 1PM Mini, Wave Pro 1PM, Wave Pro 2PM, Wave 1PM, Wave 1, Wave 1 Mini and Wave Pro 1.
The move fuels Shelly’s focus on accessibility and interoperability, marking a shift that should bring the Bulgarian brand’s devices to a broader audience.
Building on the success of the Shelly Wave Plug US, which was certified for SmartThings back in May, the new additions include power metering plugs, smart switches, and DIN rail professional devices.
These Z-Wave-powered products are designed for energy-efficient automation and reliable connectivity within the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem, making them ideal for users seeking a seamless smart home setup.
The expansion means Shelly now offers ten Z-Wave devices that integrate directly with SmartThings.
Known for its affordable, flexible, and privacy-focused smart home solutions, Shelly has long been a go-to brand for advanced smart home users, AKA nerds (I’m allowed to say that, being a fully fledged nerd card holder.)
By ramping up compatibility with one of the most widely-used platforms, the company is signalling its intention to grow beyond niche markets and appeal to everyday smart home users; a move that SmartThings itself has made in the past few years, of course.
Shelly’s devices are already platform-agnostic, integrating with Google Home, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit, often without the need for a dedicated hub.
For SmartThings users, this latest development simplifies adding Shelly devices into their setups, aligning with Samsung’s vision of an open, user-friendly smart home ecosystem.
I’m expecting to catch up with Shelly over in Vegas next month at CES 2025, so be sure to stay tuned to The Ambient for more updates from the brand.
