Works with SmartThings certification efforts ramp up
Samsung’s SmartThings is making it easier than ever to integrate Philips Hue products into its smart home ecosystem.
Thanks to a strengthened partnership between two of the biggest names in the smart home world, an additional 155 Hue devices have now been certified as Works With SmartThings (WWST), expanding the platform’s compatibility in a big way.
Now, it has – of course – always been pretty simple to add Hue lights to a SmartThings system but the key change comes from SmartThings’ Certification by Similarity program, which streamlines the process for brands like Philips Hue to certify entire product lines at once.
If you use SmartThings, this doesn’t require any adjustments on your end; but it should mean smoother integration, better device control, and fewer limitations on features when using Hue products within a SmartThings system and when using the SmartThings app.
It’s also a smart business move from the two brands as they’ll be able to team up on marketing campaigns and the like, so don’t be surprised to see Hue stuff advertised or sold through SmartThings apps and channels in the future.
SmartThings has really ramped things up in the past couple of years, with the ecosystem evolving beyond the hobbyist platform it once was, to a more mainstream offering that boasts a much wider range of officially supported devices, and a much more user friendly software suite, which even includes map views on Samsung TV.
SmartThings remains one of the easiest ways to get multiple smart home communication protocols working together, with Matter, Z-Wave, Zigbee and a whole lot more supported.
And the Samsung-owned brand has already revealed its plans for the next-generation of smart homes, with SmartThings Home AI being revealed earlier this year.
