Google Assistant rolls out to Sonos speakers in the UK

Just a few weeks after hitting the US

Google Assistant hits UK Sonos speakers

Having arrived in the US in May, Google Assistant support is now rolling out to Sonos speakers in the UK.

Sonos told us the Assistant will arrive in a software update, which the company is currently rolling out (don't panic if you don't see it yet; it's coming). Once activated, users who own a Sonos One or Sonos Beam soundbar will be able to talk to the Google Assistant directly through their speakers.

But if you don't own those more recent Sonos speakers, the update also means you can now use a connected Google Home speaker or even the Assistant app to control what's playing.

It also means users now have a choice: Google Assistant or Alexa. While you can't have both assistants running simultaneously on one speaker, you can mix and match across your Sonos speakers in the home, and they'll work together smoothly.

For example, you could start a song with the Assistant on one speaker and ask Alexa what's playing on another. Sonos confirmed that the experience for UK users will be identical to the US.
