SwitchBot has officially launched its new Roller Shade range; smart blinds that set themselves apart from rivals with an adjustable design and replaceable fabric.
Unlike traditional motorized shades that require precise measurements before purchase, SwitchBot’s approach allows users to fine-tune the width after installation, making it a more flexible and forgiving option.
Prices start at $199.99, which also makes the Roller Shades one of the most affordable smart blinds on the market.
The Roller Shade’s standout feature is its adjustable headrail, which can be modified to fit windows between 22.8 inches and 72.8 inches wide.
You’ll simply need to trim the excess fabric and adjust the frame to achieve a perfect fit. This eliminates the problem of incorrect measurements and ensures a snug, custom look without the hassle of ordering bespoke sizes.
There are four base sized on offer: small (22.8 to 31.5 inches), medium (31.5 to 43.3 inches), large (43.3 to 55.1 inches), and extra large (55.1 to 72.8 inches).
Beyond its adjustability, the Roller Shade also introduces a fabric-swapping system, letting users switch between different materials for blackout coverage, UV protection, or thermal insulation.
Like most smart blinds, SwitchBot’s offering boasts a range of automation options, allowing users to schedule opening and closing times or integrate the shade into broader smart home routines.
It connects over Bluetooth but also works with the major smart home ecosystems, including Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa if you add a SwitchBot Hub 2 to the mix.
That also adds in Matter compatibility too, as SwitchBot’s latest hubs are Matter bridges.
Installation requires a bit of hands-on effort, as you’ll need to cut the fabric to size using a built-in trimming tool.
While SwitchBot claims this process is straightforward, it may be more time-intensive compared to pre-sized shades.
Powering the Roller Shade is a rechargeable battery that lasts up to eight months on a single charge. You can also recharge via USB-C from a power pack or a plug socket, or opt for an additional $30 solar panel, which not only keeps the shade powered indefinitely but also adds a light sensor for automated adjustments based on brightness levels.
The system supports group control of up to eight shades at once, ensuring an entire room can be adjusted simultaneously. A wired remote is included in the box, while a wireless remote is available separately for $20.
You can order them now, direct from SwitchBot. Prices range from $199.99 / £169.99 for the smallest size, up to $309.99 / £269.99 for the XL.
It’s been a busy few weeks for SwitchBot. The smart home specialist took the covers off of a barrage of new tech over in Vegas at CES 2025, including the bonkers K20+ Pro modular robot, and recently unveiled an air purifier that doubles up as a bedside table.
