CES 2022: Porch pirates beware - Eufy has its eyes on you
Eufy, part of the big Anker umbrella, has revealed the Eufy Security Video Doorbell Dual at CES 2022.
Double bubble: Eufy Video Doorbell Dual review
The Video Doorbell Dual takes the 2K video skills of the existing Eufy Video Doorbell 2K but adds in a second, 1080p, downwards facing camera to keep an eye on your packages.
The front-facing camera has 160-degree field-of-view while the downward-facing camera’s 120-degree FOV is designed to display and monitor the packages.
Now, I just checked my own smart video doorbell feed (a Control4 Chime if you’re interested) and I can see the floor outside of my front door just fine. Likewise I checked the sample footage from both our Google Nest Doorbell and Arlo Video Doorbell reviews and I can see the floor in those too.
So, it could be that Eufy is solving a problem that doesn’t really exist. Although, if you require a dedicated feed that really focuses in on your packages – provided the delivery guy puts it right underneath, of course – then it could be that the Video Doorbell Dual is for you.
It’s pricey; it’s $90 more than the very capable Eufy Video Doorbell 2K with the total cost being $259.99 with a Eufy Homebase 2 (required) in the box.
Like all Eufy security devices, there is no additional monthly fee though. You don’t have to pay for cloud storage of your videos as you do with Ring or Nest, because it’s all stored locally on Eufy’s HomeBase, which has a 16GB hard drive.
Mopping up: Robovac X8 Hybrid review
The Doorbell Dual will be available in two versions; a battery model (6 months between charges) and a hardwired one.
It will also be available at a lower (as yet undeclared) price without the HomeBase 2 if you already have one in your setup.
The Eufy Video Doorbell Dual goes in sale on 16 February for $259.99. It’ll cost £229 in the UK. It works with both Alexa and Google Assistant.
Anker also used CES 2022 to launch the Eufy Security Garage-Control Cam.
Essentially a smart security camera and smart garage door opener in one, there is a 1080p Full HD version and a Plus 2K variant as well.
You’ll have to use your existing garage opening wire to power the Garage-Control Cam but the good news is they don’t need an additional hub – instead local storage is handled by a microSD card (up to 32GB).
The Eufy Security Garage-Control Cam will go on sale in March. It’s $99 for 1080p, add $30 for the Plus version if you need the 2K visuals.
