CES 2022: The latest sensor from Ring goes on sale next month
Amazon-owned security specialist Ring has announced its latest weapon in the mission to protect your house: the Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor.
Announced over in Vegas at CES 2022, the Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor – as you may have guessed – is a smart sensor that will detect if any glass has broken in its vicinity.
It’s designed to work with the Ring Alarm security system and will cost $40 / £35. You can preorder now and shipping starts on 16 February.
Ring tells us that it uses AI to determine whether glass has been broken within a 25ft range, with that AI able to determine between the real deal and something similar such as keys jangling or a dropped dish.
If broken glass is detected then an alert is sent to the Ring app; alternatively you can have the detection trigger an alarm from your base station or Outdoor Siren.
This was all possible without the addition of an additional sensor using the Alexa Guard feature but Amazon/Ring will hope that the low(ish) price, combined with those AI smarts, will be enough to get Ring Alarm users to part with their cash.
The original Ring Alarm system failed to impress us back in 2019 but the 2nd-gen model, which landed in 2020, earned a ‘Top Pick’ badge in our comprehensive review. Ring refined the system, making improvements in almost every area we critiqued.
At the end of last year a new Ring Alarm Pro was launched, with an Eero Wi-Fi 6 router built in to give you a more reliable connection to not only your Ring security devices, but smart home tech that you can use as part of Alexa Routines you setup to work with your smart security system.
You can now keep things local with the Ring Alarm Pro smart security system. Using Ring Edge, you can insert a microSD card into your Ring Alarm Pro and keep things away from the cloud.
The new Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor will work with both the Pro and non-Pro (2nd-gen) Ring Alarm system.
