Nest Cams and Thermostats are back on the Abode menu
Smart security specialist Abode has reintroduced Google Nest integrations directly into the Abode app.
By syncing up your Google Home account with your Abode app you’ll be able to add your Nest Cam and Thermostats to your Abode security system.
The integration (which was pretty much available a few years ago before Google killed the Works With Nest program) is a result of Google’s new Device Access API.
Even older ‘legacy’ Nest Cams are included but there are some limitations; for example there is no live streaming from any camera or doorbell that landed before the current-gen models – i.e. the original Nest Doorbell and the original and IQ Nest Cams.

However, those old devices are still able to provide thumbnail images in the Abode app of what is going on and can act as triggers for Abode actions – more on that in a bit.
It’s pretty straightforward to get your Nest account synced within your Abode app.
Simply tap the select the menu (≡) icon and then choose Integrations. Then choose Google Nest from the list of available Integrations and then select Connect with Google Nest and follow the prompts to log into your Nest account.
Tap all of the toggles to provide Abode access to your Nest devices you are done and you’ll see them listed in the Abode app alongside all your native sensors and cameras.
Once you get your Nest devices singing and dancing within the app you’ll be able to see snapshots of their statuses and you’ll also be able to use them as triggers for Abode automations and quick actions within the Cue setup.
For example, you can have an alarm trigger if motion is detected by a camera, or have your alarm system arm if your Nest status becomes Away.
However, those triggers are one way from Nest to Abode; you can’t have Abode triggers changes to Nest which is a shame; it would be good to turn on all cameras when you arm the Abode system, for example.
The integration is available now, just makes sure you’re running the latest version of the Abode app.
