Re-badged Wyze tech is an attractively priced package
At the end of last year Roku branched out from streaming devices to enter the smart home market with a bunch of new gadgets, partnering with Wyze to help bring them to market.
And that partnership has now produced the Roku Home Monitoring System SE smart security home alarm system.
Like the first group of products, everything in the Roku Home Monitoring System SE is essentially a rebadged Wyze device; comprising of a pair of entry sensors, a motion sensor, a wire-free keypad, and a hub with a built-in siren.
Designed to take on the likes of the Abode, Ring Alarm, SimpliSafe and Blue by ADT Roku’s offering differentiates itself from its rivals in the DIY home security system market by offering its system at an much lower price point.
The whole package costs just $99.
And while you can pair all of these devices together from Wyze for roughly the same price, Roku is hoping a one box solution will appeal, and that it can offer more via its existing platforms.
We’re told that new integrations will be rolling out in the next few weeks to Roku Smart Home users who use a Roku player or TV, such as monitoring your home and accessing your security camera history from your TV, and controlling and accessing Roku Smart Home devices including bulbs, switches and cameras with your voice, via a new integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
Basic monitoring will be free for users using the Roku app but there is the option to subscribe to a 24/7 professional monitoring, powered by Noonlight for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. It’s half price if you opt for a annual plan for the first year.
The Roku Home Monitoring System SE is available now direct from Roku.com and it will be exclusively in Walmart stores and online from 15 May.
