CES 2022: Security company continues its smart home incursion
DIY home security company Abode has announced a new Wireless Video Doorbell and full-color smart bulbs.
The maker of the Cam 2 and the Iota Gateway Security System is continuing its incursion into smart home technology and is surely hoping its security expertise will give it the edge among more skittish homeowners wary of the Amazons and Googles of the world.
Starting with the battery-powered Adobe Wireless Video Doorbell, which takes its cue from the Abode Cam 2, offering many of the same benefits.
The new Ring-rival smart video doorbell includes Wi-Fi, 2K video and IP65 resistance from the elements.
There’s also live-view and two-way communication, while there’s also a button so visitors can let you know they’ve arrived the old fashioned way.
When paired with an Abode Standard or Pro subscription, users will also benefit from cloud recording, motion detection and a recorded clip of anyone who pushes the doorbell.
New version: Abode Security Kit review
Abode says it offers full-color night vision thanks to a built-in Starlight sensor. The Abode Smart Detect feature, which is also borrowed from the Cam 2, means you’ll be notified if a person is detected at the door. A future update will include package and pet detection skills.
The doorbell will be available from April this year for $79.99.
Abode also used CES to announce that it is branching out from the smart security system space, with the announcement of the new Abode Color Bulbs.
The Color Bulbs are already available, priced at $29.99 for a pair.
The RGB bulbs can be dimmed and have a 90+ colour rendering index. They promise a max brightness of 800 lumens, are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled for easy communication and pairing with a companion smartphone.
