Full HD and better night time performance
Arlo has updated its 4G security camera, aimed at those looking to add security to areas that Wi-Fi doesn’t cover.
The new Arlo Go 2 takes on the familiar design of the Arlo Pro range, with the boxy design of the original Arlo Go morphing into a smaller, rounded shape.
Despite the decrease in size, the Go 2 adds 1080p recording, up from 720p on the original Arlo Go.
The Go 2 also adds color night vision and a spotlight, so it will be a better performer after dark. And there’s now an 80db siren built in, to warn off intruders.
Arlo has added Wi-Fi support to the Arlo Go 2, where the original would only work with a cellular connection. That means the Go 2 can be incorporated into an existing Arlo set up when it’s not required as a remote camera. However, it doesn’t support connection to an Arlo base station.
It’s also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT – and will send rich alerts to Apple Watch.
The camera works with Arlo Secure (subscription required) to store video, but there’a also a microSD slot for free, local storage if you desire.
New arrival: Arlo Pro 5 review
Battery life has been given a massive boost, and it will work for four months on 4G, and a massive 12 months on Wi-Fi. However, there’s no information from Arlo on how many daily triggers that estimate correlates to.
The Arlo Go 2 has also decreased. It’s available from 1 June for £309.99/$249.99 from the Arlo website, including two years of Arlo Secure.
Arlo Secure costs $2.99/£2.79 for one camera, $9.99/£8.99 for multiple cams and $14.99/£12.99 for added features such as 4K storage and 24/7 emergency support.
