Matter-over-Thread lamps now official after being teased at recent expos
Nanoleaf has announced the first fruits of its collaboration with Canadian design powerhouse Umbra: the Cono Portable Lamp and Cup Lamp.
Available now to pre-order, Nanoleaf has actually been teasing the new smart lamps over the past few months; we spotted both on show back in September in Berlin at IFA, and then again over in Vegas for CES in January.
Designed by Toronoto-based Umbra but powered by Nanoleaf’s smart lighting tech, the two new lamps are both Matter-over-Thread devices, so they are not only controllable via the Nanoleaf app, but should easily be able to sync up with your smart home ecosystem of choice too.
Explainers…
Starting with the extremely funky looking Cono Portable Lamp, it boasts an innovative design allowing for flexible positioning, whether upright, on its side, or even upside down.
You’ll notice no wires on show in the images, and that’s because it packs in a battery and promises five-hours of lighting before it’ll need charging via its USB-C port.
It’s available in Grey or Sierra and costs $95 in the US or £110 in the UK, direct from Nanoleaf (you can currently get 10% off for a limited time.)
The Cup Lamp, which ups the brightness from 130 lumens on the Cono to 320 lumens, isn’t battery powered but is able to charge your tech using its USB port.
Like the Cono, it boasts an RGBW color range of 2700K-6500K and is capable of shining more than 16 million colors.
Its base doubles up as a handy stationary pot, so it’s clearly designed with your desk in mind; hence the Cup moniker.
The Nanoleaf Cup Lamp is $130 Stateside, £150 in Blighty and comes in black.
