The Arlo Home Security System is now also finally available to pre-order
Arlo has unveiled the next generation of its mid-range smart camera range, the Pro 5S – as well as finally delivered details regarding the price and availability of the Arlo Home Security System.
The $249.99 Pro 5S replaces the Arlo Pro 4 that launched back in 2020, providing improvements to both battery life and connectivity.
New arrival: Arlo Pro 5 review
Alongside dual-band Wi-Fi support, meaning the device can now operate on both 5GHz and 2.4Ghz, users can also pair it with the upcoming Home Security System and receive continuous connectivity during internet or power outages.
The battery improvements, it seems, will be largely due to a new low-power mode, with Arlo indicating that this should help deliver up to 30% longer life.
Though Arlo roughly claimed around six months with the Pro 4 camera, we found through our testing that any kind of high-traffic area will see this drop considerably – often to around one month – so a battery upgrade would indeed be welcome.
Elsewhere, it’s broadly the same specs and features. The 5S is able to capture in 2K HDR and features a 160-degree field of view, integrated spotlight and built-in siren, with this also joined by two-way audio support and color night vision.

Arlo’s security system now finally available
As we say, this announcement is also coupled with the long-awaited release of the Arlo Home Security System. First announced way back at CES 2019, before being ignored for three years, the security system is now finally available to pre-order.
As we already knew from the update Arlo provided at CES 2022, the system comprises just two parts; a security hub with an integrated keypad and a multi-purpose sensor. Packages start from $199.99, which gives you the hub and a pair of sensors, with this jumping to $299.99 if you’d prefer five sensors.
Rather than having a different type of sensor for every type of security event, Arlo’s multi-purpose sensor can detect motion, door/window openings and tilt, water leaks, light/temperature changes, and T3 and T4 smoke/CO alarm patterns.
Naturally, it’ll also talk with other Arlo products, such as the Pro 5S. So, if it detects someone opening a window, it can send an alert to a nearby Arlo camera to start recording. The Keypad Sensor Hub also houses a siren, works as a motion sensor and uses NFC for quick alarming and disarming.
It all fits neatly into Arlo’s subscription plan and 24/7 monitoring service, and the system itself will be compliant with Matter, though there’s still no official word on the Home Security System’s specific integrations with Google Assistant, Alexa or Apple HomeKit.
If you fancy just controlling everything through the Arlo Secure app, though, this is also getting a fresh lick of paint.
As well as a redesigned UI, users can now piece together automations within the app and trigger events involving geofencing, mode changes, schedules, alarms and more. Real-time emergency response status updates will also be delivered through the new-look app, too.
We’ll be trying out all these new improvements when we come to test both the Pro 5S and the Home Security System over the coming weeks and months, so look out for our full impressions.
