The company keeps the promise it made back at CES
After promising at CES it would ship a Matter-enabled product before the end of Q1, Eve has announced that its Eve Energy smart plug is now on sale.
The device becomes the first from the company to actually arrive with Matter enabled automatically, though support has technically been available since December through Eve’s Early Access program.
As with that beta test period, the Matter-supported version of Eve Energy will also be joined by the Eve Motion and Door & Window smart sensors, though this pair won’t go on sale until 17 April.
That date will also be when Eve’s Matter firmware update rolls out to all users, with existing devices being upgraded to the new smart home standard via the company’s iOS app.
Opinion: Matter is a mess
It won’t be the same process for Android users, of course, given that the company still hasn’t officially launched the Eve Android app it teased back at IFA in September.
However, Eve users operating from an Android device can, at least, still set up and use its Matter-enabled devices through Google Home or Samsung SmartThings.
Based on what Eve has told The Ambient previously, this trio will just be the first of its devices to offer support right out of the box, too, with Eve Aqua, Flare Lamp and MotionBlinds all in line for the upgrade later this year.
And given that Philips Hue has just announced a delay to its Matter rollout, also previously slated to arrive before the end of Q1, Eve’s relatively smooth transition continues to be a good sign for the new smart home platform.
