Eve Energy, Door & Window and Motion to receive support
Eve has announced that it’s beginning to roll out an over-the-air Matter update for three devices – Eve Energy, Eve Door & Window and Eve Motion.
We’ve known the update for the trio of Eve products has been in the pipeline since the Matter launch event, and, as a result, they’ve become the first devices available to support the new standard.
If you’re the owner of any of these, you’re still able to sign up for the Eve x Matter Early Access Program to receive the update as it rolls out. Doing so will ensure your Eve device is finally compatible with the likes of Samsung SmartThings and, once they update their own platforms, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
The brief for the beta also states that participating users won’t lose any automation or features they’ve set up through HomeKit, which is a neat touch, though do keep in mind that products can’t be able to be migrated back to HomeKit once they make the leap to Matter.
To do so, users will also need a Thread Border Router – which we’ve listed in our full guide to Thread – and an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16.2 or later with the Eve app installed.
Naturally, this all represents a pretty significant milestone for Matter – and we’re expecting even more developments from Eve relating to the standard over the next couple of months.
The company is expected to roll out the Matter update to the rest of its Thread-packing products next year, and devices with support for the platform built-in will ship in Q1 2023.
