Parasoll, Vallhorn and Badring all super cheap too
Ikea has continued its smart home charge with the announcement of a trio of new smart sensors: Parasoll, Vallhorn and Badring.
Parasoll is a window/door sensor with the usual open / close features. It’ll cost €9.99 in Europe (US and UK pricing TBC.)
Vallhorn is a more powerful, and cheaper (€7.99), motion sensor than the current Trådfri model that Ikea sells, and can be used outdoors too (IP44 splash proof rating).
Badring isn’t a broken doorbell, it’s a water sensor with a built in 60dB siren. It’ll cost €9.99 on Le Continent (again, $ and £ still unknown).
These smart Zigbee sensors are designed with Ikea’s latest smart home hub – Dirigera – in mind, although you don’t actually need a hub to use them.
That’s because, as we’ve seen before with the Ikea Trådfri motion sensors and smart buttons, they can also be paired independently to compatible Ikea smart light bulbs; up to 10, in fact.
Costing less than €10 each, the new trio therefore offer an easy and relatively cheap way of automating your home.
Obviously if you throw the Dirigera hub into the mix then you’ll have access to a raft of automations and actions, as Ikea’s latest smart home hub plays nicely with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit.
Plus there’s that all-important Matter compatibility coming soon on too. Mind you, Ikea told us Dirigera would be synced up with Matter in early 2023… so don’t hold your breath.
No doubt tinkerers will be able to get them paired with the likes of a Home Assistant or a Homey Pro, but we understand there’s no compatibility with the Trådfri Gateway at all for the Badring and Parasoll.
The launch dates are about as clear as one of Ikea’s furniture self assembly manuals…
Vallhorn will go on sale in January, in select countries including the US.
Parasoll will also launch in January in some countries but won’t hit US Ikea stores until April – the same month Badring goes live, but not in the States, where people will have to wait until July.
