Trio of snazzy Ömsesidig covers go on sale next month
Ikea’s most stylish collaboration with Sonos – the Symfonisk Picture Frame – just got a bit more stylish thanks to the launch of a trio of new arty panels.
The trio of new Ömsesidig panels are part of a wider collection of accessories the Swedish furniture giant has unveiled, in partnership with nine Latin American creatives.
In terms of the three new Ömsesidig Symfonisk Picture Frame panels, there are two designs from Chilean muralist and artist Trini Guzmán (below) and an individual effort from Colombian artist Diana Ordóñez (main image, up top).
Ömsesidig means mutual in Swedish and we’re told it signifies “the mutual curiosity to create and learn from each other.”
The Diana Ordóñez design is inspired by her home country’s vibrant carnival tradition.
“The mask is a kind of costume that allows us to be another character,” she explains.
“Colombian culture has many festivals, and masks are used as a way of expression, a moment when you can be a monster, a bull, a cow, a woman, a man. For me, the mask is an interpretation of the many characters that are inside of us.”
Guzmán’s designs are meant to enhance and celebrate the light and life in our homes.
“When we invite someone into our home, we are also opening a part of our hearts,” Guzmán says.
“By sharing our space and the items that surround us everyday, we are also sharing more of our stories and intimacy. With this collection, I wanted to design products that encourage people to bring their own creativity to the objects that will be part of their homes, celebrations and stories, by inviting them to colour, cut and transform them.”
The designs are definitely the best panels we’ve seen for the Frame so far – although that’s not saying much (unless you really love leopards or horses, that is).
There’s no word on pricing just yet but Ikea is currently selling its animal print collection for the Frame at $30, so we’d imagine it’d be around this price-point.
What we do know is the ÖmsesidigSymfonisk Picture Frame panels go on sale next month, as part of a range spanning 30 different items including rice paper lampshades and table setting garlands.
