New outdoor cam launched alongside new smart light solutions
Philips Hue already has a vast portfolio when it comes to smart lighting – it’s hands down one of the best offerings in the business. Being the king of smart lighting wasn’t enough for the company however, having recently ventured into the smart security field too.
It’s both these areas that have seen expansion as we hit the end of January too, with Signify (the company behind Philips Hue) having announced not just some extra wall lights to its smart lighting line up, but new connectors for its Philips Hue Peril track lighting and joining the Philips Hue Secure camera, is the Philips Hue Secure Floodlight Camera.
What is the Philips Hue floodlight camera and what does it do?
The Philips Hue Secure floodlight camera has been designed for outdoor use, similar to the Google Nest Cam with Floodlight and it does exactly what you would expect – lights up the outside of your home when motion is detected or you manually make it from the Hue app.
It is a little smarter than just that however, illuminating an area of your garden or driveway in any colour you like when you trigger a light alarm from the Philips Hue app. The Google Nest Cam with Floodlight can only offer white light by comparison so whether you want to light up your driveway pink, purple, red or orange, the Hue Secure Floodlight Camera will have you covered.
There are some new app features coming to the Security Centre of the Hue app too, including improvements to the security push notifications and event timeline, along with automatic light and sound alarms when motion is detected by the Secure security camera.
What else has Philips Hue announced?
In perhaps the biggest news for the Secure security cameras however, is that Amazon Alexa and Google Home support is coming and that is most definitely something we are looking forward to seeing. It will mean you will be able to add the Secure security cameras to your Alexa or Google smart home systems and we would expect you will be able to see video feeds from the cameras on an Echo Show or Nest Hub, for example. This is something offered by the Google Nest Cams and Ring cameras for Google and Alexa respectively and it’s a very handy feature.
Additionally, Philips Hue has announced the Dymera wall light that is designed for indoor or outdoor use, combining functionality and style. The Dymera wall light will offer individual control over two beams of light that shine up and down, like many wall lights. There is a choice of warm to cool light or coloured light so you can opt to have functional lighting, ambient lighting or a delightful shade of blue lighting up your living room or patio. Whatever tickles your fancy.
The Dymera wall light comes in a black finish only, but each light can be dimmed or brightened with the Philips Hue app and the colours can be controlled individually too. Alternatively, as you would expect from Hue, you can also choose to set a scene.
The Philips Hue Dymera wall light will be available from 27 February 2024 and they will cost £199.99. The Hue Secure floodlight camera is available now – as of 23 January 2024 – and it will cost £299.99.
