Smart cleaning specialist among list of latest members of Alliance
Beijing Roborock Technology – just Roborock to you and me – has joined the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), the guys running the Matter smart home show.
The Roborock name – the brand behind some super impressive robo cleaners such as the Q7 Max+ and the latest flagship, the S8 Pro Ultra – was included on a list of 13 companies that the CSA tweeted at the end of last week:
Welcome to our newest members! We look forward to your invaluable contributions in helping the Alliance pave the way to a world of #seamless interaction transforming the way we live, work, and play.#csaiot#IoTcommunity#newmemberspic.twitter.com/khXjlborEa

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything but we’d hazard a guess that it implies that robot vacuum cleaners could be amongst the next list of devices to be supported by the new smart home standard.
When Matter launched officially last year, there were Matter devices certified from eight launch categories; light bulbs and light switches, plugs, door locks, thermostats and HVAC controllers, blinds and shades, smart sensors, bridges, smart TVs and streaming devices.
Robot vacuums were conspicuous by their absence from that list but were mentioned as as part of the next set of Matter devices by the CSA’s Head of Certification & Testing Programs, Jon Harros, at a smart home event at IFA 2022 (pictured below).
Roborock and the other brands mentioned in the tweet join over 600 members of the Connectivity Standards Alliance.
The Alliance is pretty much a who’s who of the consumer tech world; the likes of Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, Ikea, Samsung SmartThings, Schneider Electric, Signify, Silicon Labs and Somfy are all involved.
The premise of Matter is to make the smart home more unified and easier for consumers. It’s off to somewhat of a shaky start, but you can expect Matter to be one of the key themes at IFA 2023, which kicks off later this month.
And, given Roborock’s name on that list, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if we see some of those ‘next set’ device categories getting involved in the Matter party.
