The new smart locks will work with almost every platform - including Matter
Yale has unveiled the second generation of its flagship smart lock line, the Assure Lock 2 – a collection that features four revamped designs and add-on modules that allows each to integrate into pretty much every smart platform.
Verdict: Yale Conexis L2 review
The security giant indicates the new series of locks are around 30% smaller than the original Assure Lock family, with each supporting Bluetooth and Apple Home out of the box.
Thanks to those add-on modules, however, the support doesn’t end there. One for Wi-Fi support is available at launch, supporting the likes of Alexa, Google Home, Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings and Airbnb systems, and foregoing the need for separate hubs, with a Z-Wave version arriving soon.
A Matter-enabled module will be available shortly after the long-awaited platform officially begins rolling out, too, with the trio also backward compatible and able to work with the first-gen Assure Lock model.
The pricing structure is relatively complicated for all the different new versions, though, since there’s so many different combinations. For the standard model, the lineup starts with the Keypad and Key-Free Keypad editions, both set at $159.99, with the Touchscreen and Key-Free Touchscreen each available for $179.99.
However, this jumps up in price with the inclusion of the Z-Wave module, and even more for Wi-Fi support. The Matter module will be available separately for $79.99.
As you would expect, all of the Assure Lock 2 devices are able to be self-installed, coming with a small adapter that can be used on doors with a 1 – 1/2-inch bore hole, which should cover most doors in the US and Canada. Those interested the smart lock will also have three different finishes to choose between – black suede, oil rubbed bronze and satin nickle.
At least on paper, the lineup seems to tick plenty of boxes, so we look forward to testing it out over the coming few weeks.
