CES 2024: New Orchestrator music sync software also unveiled
Smart lighting specialist Nanoleaf added Matter to the mix when it launched the 2nd-gen Essentials line last summer, and is now set to take the range outside.
Announced over in Las Vegas at CES 2024, the new Matter-enabled Essentials line-up has been expanded to include Multicolor Lightstrip (Indoor), Outdoor String Lights, and Permanent Outdoor Lights.
This is the first time that Nanoleaf has ventured outdoors but you can expect all the usual bells and whistles, such as pre-set scenes, integrations with your other Nanoleaf lights, and compatibility with all of the major smart home ecosystems such as Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.

Unlike the previous Matter Nanoleaf Essentials lights, these new options are all Matter-over-WiFi, not Matter-over-Thread
There’s no word on pricing just yet but we’re told that the new Essentials devices will go on sale in the spring.
Orchestrating new music sync options
Also at the big tech expo Nanoleaf announced a new music sync feature for its smart lights to get them dancing to the beat of your tunes.
Dubbed ‘Nanoleaf Orchestrator’ the feature goes above and beyond the existing Rhythm feature, which uses a microphone to react to music it hears.
Orchestrator is a software-based solution that works inside the Nanoleaf Desktop app, working alongside your music streaming service of choice.
Because it knows the source of the music, rather than reacting to sounds it picks up via a microphone, Nanoleaf says it results in the most accurate real-time audio visual experience.
Skylight finally arrives
The final announcement from Matter at CES 2024 is actually an update from an announcement at CES 2023… the Nanoleaf Skylight is now available to pre-order.
These square, modular setups (you can add up to 100 squares) are designed to sit on ceilings, with each square emitting up to 1,400 lumens.
The Skylight is Matter compatible and, like other devices in the Nanoleaf range, it has the ability to act as a Thread Border Router, too.
It will cost you $249.99 / £229.99 for a starter pack of 3 squares and each individual square after that is $69.99 / £69.99.
