'No longer available'... does this mean a new system is incoming?
Nest Secure is no more. Head over to the Google Store and you’ll see a big ‘no longer available’ badge slapped across the listing.
Nest Secure is/was Google’s answer to the likes of the Ring Alarm, SimpliSafe, Abode and Vivint the ever expanding smart home security system market.
Initially available back in 2017, Google slashed the price from the lofty heights of $499 to a more manageable $399 less than a year later.
The Google Nest Secure also played nicely with your other Google Nest products, plus it had the Google Assistant built in.
You could link it up to your Nest Cam to start recording whenever the Secure detected motion at a window or door, or the Nest x Yale lock coukd automatically disable the whole security system when you unlocked it.
In our Nest Secure review, updated back in 2018 we stated:
“The Nest Secure takes home security and makes it simple and convenient to use. Nest has clearly thought through, and experienced, the many pain points of home security systems and come up with a solution that gets rid of nearly all of them. Once you start using Secure, you’ll never want to go back to how things were.“
Sad news then for anyone who did buy into that, although the good news is that Google has vowed to continue to support users going forward.
And, possibly even better news, Google invested $450 million for a 6.6% percent stake in ADT back in August so we’ve high hopes for a souped-up Nest/ADT security mash up in the future.
Rishi Chandra, GM and VP of Nest said, at the time of the investment, “ADT is a leader in smart home security, and I look forward to working with the team to create innovative smart home security solutions that help everyone feel safe and protected.”
