Pixel count gets a bump for Pro sequel, which also adds some nifty new features
The new Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 video doorbell, which leaked last week, is now official.
New flagship doorbell: Ring 2 Pro review
Best Buy Canada had briefly listed the new video doorbell, before pulling the page – presumably when Bezos’ legal team got in touch.
But it’s all irrelevant now as the Amazon-owned smart video door bell specialist has confirmed all of the slick new features the listing teased.
Top picks: Best smart video doorbells
Looking a helluva lot like the original Pro, the Pro 2 boasts a 1536 x 1536 resolution, providing a viewing angle that is optimized so as you can see callers from head to toe, or see if packages have been left on your porch.
The Ring Pro 2 also features two-way talk, as well as 3D Motion Detection that can sense movement.
Ring states that this new 3D Motion Detection feature powers a new Bird’s Eye View skill; giving an aerial view of the entrance and a map of where a motion event starts, to give historical context to the nature of the event.
Alexa Greetings are also on board; which is one of the new features that arrived with Ring’s new Smart Responses feature that was announced earlier this month
Alexa Greetings puts Alexa in charge of vetting your visitors. Users can choose to have Alexa ask the purpose of a visit and the assistant can then take voice messages or tell someone where to leave a delivery.
Quick Replies let users pick from six responses, including “Please leave the package outside. If you’d like to leave a message, you can do it now,” or “We can’t answer the door right now, but if you’d like to leave a message, you can do it now.”.
The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 costs $249.99 and is available to pre-order now. Shipping will begin on 31 March.
We’ll have a full Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 review posted in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that.
