The gadget allows you to buzz people in from anywhere
Ring has used the stage of IFA 2022 to unveil a smart intercom that allows you to access your door from anywhere.
The aptly-named Ring Intercom, in the same way as some of the company’s video doorbells, latches onto existing tech – in this case, your apartment block’s standard entry phone – and turns it smart.
So, rather than replace your current intercom system, Ring’s solution is designed to actually work alongside it. The Intercom base station will sit alongside your buzzer, meaning even those who rent have the option to stick it to the wall and take it with them as they leave.
What does the Ring Intercom actually enable, though? Well, when somebody buzzes your door, a notification is sent through to the Ring app, complete with an audio recording that’s encrypted within the Amazon-owned company’s app.
From here, it’s also possible to unlock the door and buzz people into a building even when you’re not present. This is made easier for family and friends, as well, as Intercom owners can invite them to the app and receive access.
For Amazon deliveries, the Auto-Verify feature also allows users to provide drivers with time-bound access to bring Amazon packages safely inside a building.
Naturally, Alexa integration is present, too, with notifications pinging to each and every compatible smart speaker in the same home. Voice control means you don’t even have to get up from the couch to let somebody in.
The Ring Intercom is available to order from 28 September in the UK for £119.99 before shipping on 26 October. It will also be landing in France, Spain and Italy early next year, as well as the US at some point in 2023.
