Well, well, well... what do we have here then? Actually, it's fairly obvious that it's in image of a pair of headphones with the word Sonos on them, so it's hardly a riddle.
But it's very exciting nonetheless; a pair of Sonos headphones has been rumored for years.
This latest image, from the German Patent and Trademark Office, follows up a design we saw from the US equivalent, last year.
However, the design is a lot more 'on-brand' (in that it actually has the Sonos logo plastered on the side) and anticipation is high for some new Sonos goodies after the multi-room speaker specialist's CEO Patrick Spence got the rumor-mill in a frenzy following an earnings call earlier this month.
"We remain committed to launching at least two new products per year and are well on track as we look at our fiscal 2021 product roadmap," Spence told investors during the call. "We are excited to introduce our newest product next month. Stay tuned for details."
A smaller Bluetooth Sonos speaker - a mini Move, if you will - has also been doing the rumor-rounds, so it was interpreted that the Sonos chief was referring to that.
But the new patent designs suggest we're also getting closer to a pair of Sonos cans.
Presumably a pair of Sonos headphones would sit in within a Sonos system as any other 'speaker' from the brand but, obviously, offer a more personal listening experience.
As per Apple's AirPod range and HomePod smart speakers, a seamless audio handoff would presumably be a feature too; for example you could be listening to your Sonos headphones on your commute home and then ping the audio straight to your home speakers when you walk through the front door.
Exciting times ahead then for Sonos fans and all eyes will be on Sonos' investor event on 9 March, when we're hoping some new Sonos devices get an official unveiling.
