The SpaceSense feature becomes even more useful
WiZ is broadening its SpaceSense feature to allow existing motion-sensing Wi-Fi smart bulbs to work alongside a new indoor camera, with the pair combining to boost home security.
We’ve already seen how SpaceSense can be used to detect changes in Wi-Fi signals and act as a hidden motion sensor, but the $70 / £79.99 WiZ Indoor Camera now adds a new layer to the security setup.
It means potential intruders would now be detected by a SpaceSense-compatible bulb, which in turn could then send an alert to the WiZ app to notify the user while the camera captures what’s going on.
Per an update that landed in April, existing WiZ lights with Bluetooth (and all new bulbs) work with SpaceSense, though the camera and at least two bulbs are a requirement here.
And based on the specs sheet, at least, the camera also appears to be a fairly solid option.
It features 1080p streaming and recording, a 120-degree field of view, two-way audio, motion detection, and night vision, with WiZ also training it to listen out for loud noises such as glass breaking or an alarm sounding.
The company is also making it easy to get started with the SpaceSense home security, as well, with the WiZ Home Monitoring Starter kit – involving a trio of A19 bulbs and the Indoor Camera – launching for €159.99 in mid-June.
US pricing isn’t yet clear for this bundle, though this would translate to around $175 / £140. And for those who already have compatible bulbs, the camera will be available to buy at the end of May.
It’s one we’re intrigued to try out, too. WiZ products have always been ones to consider due to the low cost of entry, and the additional features being unlocked through SpaceSense only sweeten the deal.
Keep in mind that you will have to subscribe for 30 days of cloud storage for the Indoor Cam, however.
