The latest generation of the indoor / outdoor smart camera has arrived
Wyze has unveiled the third generation of its flagship smart security camera, the Wyze Cam v3 Pro.
The latest iteration of the camera holds up the company’s signature entry-level asking price, available for just $49.99, with a bump up to 2K resolution and faster AI processing representing the headline changes.
The latter addition should mean that alerts for things like person detection are much quicker than we’ve seen with previous devices. Wyze also indicates that the v3 Pro also features a couple of healthy upgrades from the standard Wyze Cam v3, including a faster CPU, better speaker and microphone and a more solid Wi-Fi connection, thanks to two antennas.
The camera is wired and designed for outdoor use, as well as indoors, with the company indicating it’ll deliver 20 FPS video in daylight and 15 FPS at night. The 4MP sensor is capable of delivering color night vision, too, with a spotlight and siren also built into the body.
If you do want to plug it in outdoors, though, just note that you’ll need to pick up a sold-separately power adaptor.
As far as storage is concerned, users are able to leverage the 256GB slot in the v3 Pro for local recording around the clock, though having a Wyze Cam Plus subscription plan also provides you with clip history from the last 14 days, as well as the ability to view the action through the company’s web portal.
For those who don’t want to pay a monthly fee, it’s also possible to have the Wyze Cam Lite plan, but this limits event recordings to 12 seconds.
if you’re in the market for a versatile and relatively cheap security camera, then, the v3 appears to stack up pretty well on paper. And it caps off a busy month or so for Wyze, with the company helping launch an entire line of Roku smart home gadgets.
We’ll be testing out the Wyze Cam v3 Pro over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for our full verdict.
