You can have one or the other
The latest Yale Assure Lock 2 models have been announced featuring Apple Home Key or fingerprint entry options… but you can’t have both.
Instead, you will have to choose between the Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus, for the Home Key features; or the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch for the fingerprint opening.
Verdict: Yale Conexis L2 review
It seems daft not to offer a model with both but I can’t be too critical here as most of the other Home Key compatible locks such as the Schlage Encode Plus also don’t offer fingerprint opening either. The only one that does is the Aqara U100.
Gripes aside and these new options are additions to the second generation of its flagship smart lock line, that was originally launched at the end of last year.
Starting with the Plus (main image) and this is the Home Key flavored one, meaning you can store your key in and unlock your door with either your iPhone or Apple Watch.
There’s also no physical key option on the Plus, so is very much aimed squarely at iPhone users who always have their phone on them; although you can also add Wi-Fi to the Bluetooth mix with the additional Wi-Fi module, which brings the likes of Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings into play.
Yale also has a Matter module in the works, although – as seems to be becoming a thing with Matter – it has been in the works for a long old time and there’s still no word on when it’ll arrive.
Onto the Assure Lock 2 Touch is actually Yale’s first-ever smart lock with a built-in fingerprint reader, and you can have it recognize up to 20 fingerprints.
Like the Plus, it can also be Wi-Fi’d-up with the additional module and there’s also an additional physical key option, as well.
The Assure Lock 2 Touch comes in both keyed and key-free touchscreen versions; in black suede, oil-rubbed bronze, and satin nickel, costing $199.99. You can add $80 to that if you want the Wi-Fi module in the box.
The Assure Lock 2 Plus is key-free only and costs $209.99 on its own or $289.99 with the Wi-Fi module.
They are both on sale now.
