The company's outdoor camera lineup gets a boost
Ring has announced a couple of new smart security cameras – the Spotlight Cam Pro and Spotlight Cam Plus – as part of the Amazon hardware launch event.
After debuting its 3D Motion Detection in other wares, such as the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, the company is now beginning to roll the technology into more devices.
The $229.99 / £199.99 Spotlight Cam Pro is the one to benefit here, receiving the radar that’s able to more accurately monitor the distance of an object in front of the camera.
As we’ve discovered from testing other Ring products with the radar, combining this with motion zones really helps cut down on unnecessary notifications. It means cars going past on the road won’t trigger an alert, say, but people going through your front gate will.
This can also be enjoyed alongside a feature only available to Ring devices with the advanced radar sensors – Bird’s Eye View. This show users a satellite image of how each individual motion event was triggered.
As with the regular Ring Spotlight Cam, there’s still a 1080p camera, color night vision and a 140-degree field of view for the Pro model, as well, so the headline change here really is that advanced radar motion detection.
Both the battery and plug-in model are available to pre-order now through Amazon, and will ship on 26 October. However, there’s also a $249.99 solar-powered model available, too, though it’s not yet clear what the UK pricing is for this edition.
Spotlight Cam Plus brings improved night vision
If you don’t like the sound of the Cam Pro, then Ring is also launching the $199.99 / £179.99 Spotlight Cam Plus on 26 October.
This is essentially a minor upgrade on the regular Spotlight Cam, adding features like improved, color night vision to a package that includes everything from the standard model, such as two-way talk, a spotlight, a 1080p camera and a 140-degree field of view.
As you would expect from Ring, there are also options for a solar-powered model alongside the battery and wired variants.
