A world first for a Z-Wave smart lock is one of 6 unlocking options
Smart lock specialist U-tec has taken the covers off of the world’s first Z-Wave smart deadbolt with fingerprint recognition: the Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave.
Meaty name and a meaty spec-sheet too, as the new smart deadbolt lock not only offers Z-Wave connectivity but an array of different unlocking methods.
Obviously there’s the fingerprint option that we already mentioned, but there’s also Apple Watch, phone, voice (Alexa or Google Home), number codes, and mechanical key unlocking all available too.

The Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave is compatible with a few smart home hubs including SmartThings, Hubitat and the Ring Alarm system.
The Z-Wave connectivity is complimented with Bluetooth and we’re told that this means you could, in theory, use just your phone with no hub; but you’d obviously then lose out on all the major features that Z-Wave and a web connection provides… think remote unlocking, guest access and the like.
Obviously, with Alexa and Google Assistant on board too, there’s a never-ending array of routines and automations that you’ll be able to assign to the lock and unlock status of the smart deadbolt.
The U-tec app offers access, guest keys, lock/unlock status and user history logs.
It is designed to fit any US standard door with no wiring and no drilling, and there is dual data encryption, with two-layer protection using secure 128-bit AES and a dynamic key that will keep your data secure.
Battery life is touted as a year and there’s a micro-USB emergency port should it run out of juice and lock you in or out.
The U-tec Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave is $229 and is on sale now. There’s also a non-pro version that does without the fingerprint reader, for $179.
