The 87 best Google Assistant commands

The Google Home - or another Google Assistant-powered smart speaker - has taken residence in your living room/kitchen/bedroom. Now you're bored of asking it trivia. What next?

Google doesn't work with quite as many smart home devices as Alexa but it excels at a lot of voice-based requests - especially where Google's own services are concerned. We're talking Google Maps, Calendar, YouTube and the rest.

Read on for some of our favourite, most used and most useful Google Assistant commands that work with smart speakers and Google Assistant smart displays. As with Alexa, we'd recommend that the first one you remember is, "Hey Google, stop".

You can use the wake words "OK, Google" and "Hey Google" for any of these. Another important note: you can string together two commands in one sentence and Assistant will take care of both. For example, you could say, "Hey Google, play Talking Heads and turn the volume to 9".

You might also want to create a Routine with its own snappy phrase instead.
