CES 2023: Matter support is also coming to the smart blinds soon
Eve has announced a number of upgrades, updates and new products at CES 2023, headlined by the expansion of its smart blinds range.
Previously just made-to-measure smart roller blinds that were available through Coulisse, Eve is growing the range of options to include both Venetian and honeycomb fits – and even debuting a retrofit solution to turn ‘dumb’ blinds into smart ones.
Guide: Best Matter smart home devices
The Eve MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit for Roller Blinds (rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it) features mounting brackets, covers and a set of adapters that are able to help users fit the all-important motor into their existing roller blind tube.
From there, previously manual-functioning blinds can tap into all of Eve’s smart blind features, such as scheduling and scenes, as well as link up to users’ Apple Home.
The extended MotionBlinds range won’t be limited to Apple’s ecosystem for long, though, with the included support for Thread enabling the Matter firmware update that’s currently on course to land before the end of Q1. Eve notes that the original MotionBlinds roller blind model has already passed Matter certification, as well.
Given each of the three new smart blinds will only ship on 28 March, though, which is essentially the end of Q1, it’s almost certain that Matter support will arrive out of the box.
Pricing naturally varies for the made-to-measure Venetian and honeycomb MotionBlinds, and these are only available through select third-party retailers, but we do know the Upgrade Kit for Roller Blinds will set you back $199.95.
Matter support will soon come out of the box
Early access to the Matter update on Eve products has been live for a while now, but the company also used the showroom floor at CES to announce that the Eve Energy, Eve Door & Window and Eve Motion will ship with support for the new smart home standard out of the box by the end of Q1, too.
So, while existing owners will have to upgrade their devices with the over-the-air update, it’ll soon come as standard on the three devices.
