It's time to put down the controller
Microsoft is rolling out an update that will allow Xbox owners to use the Google Home app as a touch remote control for their console.
Those with a Series S or Series X can already channel voice commands through Google Assistant, but this latest feature builds on this by allowing users to navigate using just their phone or tablet.
Providing the Xbox is linked in the app, gamers will be able to use the touch buttons for powering their console on or off, navigating around menus and controlling volume.
The standard media controls for playing, pausing or skipping through content are also available, and the Xbox controller’s game-clip recording button is even replicated.

The layout is actually fairly similar to the functionality Google rolled out late last year for other connected streaming and media devices, which formed part of the wider Google Home app revamp.
To reap the benefits of this latest change, all you need to do is simply head over to the Google Home app (after checking you’re running the latest app version) and pull down from the main dashboard to refresh your devices.
From there, simply tapping on your Xbox’s tile will bring up the new controls.
Naturally, your console will also need to be running the latest software, too. This February update is titled 10.0.22621.3446, and you can check this out by going to Profile & System > Settings > System > Console Info.
