The Vindstyrka comes with a big display and launches in April
Ikea has announced a new addition to its smart home range, the Vindstyrka indoor air quality monitor.
Packing a relatively large display and working in conjunction with the Matter-enabled Dirigera smart hub, it becomes the first smart air quality monitor we’ve seen from the Swedish chain.
In fact, the Vindstyrka is fairly similar in design to the non-smart Ikea Vindriktning air quality sensor. However, as you would expect, the latter doesn’t come with the ability to integrate into your smart home, and it also doesn’t feature that fancy display.
On the screen, you’ll be privy to all the things the monitor is gauging, such as particulate matter (PM2.5), humidity, temperature and total volatile organic compound levels (TVOC).

To help you make sense of it all, a rating of green, yellow, or red will also be applied. And if you do happen to link it up with the rest of your home gadgets – whether through the Ikea Home app, or an ecosystem like Google Home, HomeKit or Alexa – the functionality will naturally expand.
For example, if the Vindstyrka senses that your home’s PM2.5 levels are at a certain level, it can automatically trigger your Ikea Starkvind purifier into action to try and offset this.
Ikea hasn’t actually provided any price details through its initial release, though it does indicate that it’ll be available in all markets beginning in April.
Given that rival smart air quality monitors – like the ones we see from Airthings – are often a bit more feature-packed, and come in at over $200 / £200, we’d expect Ikea’s variant to naturally lean on the budget end of the scale.
As ever, though, we’ll update this piece when we have more information.
