Harman Kardon has taken the wrapper off a brand new Google Assistant smart speaker – the Citation 500 – which is set to cost £549.

The speaker – which retails for just under double that of an Apple HomePod – is designed in collaboration with Nordic firm Kvadrat. Available in black and grey and adorned in fabric, it’s designed to blend into the clean lines of your minimal and spacious Scandi-furnished penthouse.

The 200W stereo speakers support 24Bits/96Khz audio streaming, and there’s not only Google Assistant built-in, but also support for Chromecast as well. That’s plenty of punch – but given that the likes of Apple and Sonos don’t publish the power output of their speakers, it’s hard to compare until we get the unit in for review.

The Citation 500 a neat little LCD touchscreen on the top (shown above), which will show information, such as what track playing. However, this is a far cry from the full-fledged Google Assistant Smart Display that we could see from Harman-owned JBL at IFA 2018 in September.

Pre-orders are set for delivery in September and it costs £549 – putting it right at the top end of the smart speaker market. We’re still yet to year of pricing in other markets.
